Origin & Story
How a pincode made out of refugee barracks became one of South Delhi's most sought-after addresses, and the three generations behind 110024.com.
Origin of Pincode 110024
The pincode 110024 which has now emerged as an upscale prime location constitutes of two posh colonies namely - Lajpat Nagar and Defence Colony. The origin of the pincode was quite dramatic for which we have to go back in the late 1940s.
Soon after the partition of India, the government allotted properties in Lajpat Nagar to the refugees who migrated from Pakistan. The properties were in the form of single storey accommodations covered with asbestos sheets resembling army barracks. The properties were allotted at concessional prices and property size was determined by the number of members in the family. This later evolved and emerged into one of the finest colony of South Delhi - Lajpat Nagar.
Similarly an area in the vicinity was allotted to the army personnel who migrated from Pakistan. The era & criteria for allotment was same and this colony got the name - Defence Colony. It is now one of the most affluent location of South Delhi.
